- On the night of the big Wind there were fourteen houses in Drumhill and the roofs were taken off every one of them. In the morning the salt water was blown from the sea and the windows were covered with salt. There was no one able to climb up and fix the houses but one old woman.
- In olden times very few people in Ireland were educated. They who received any education got it in hedge schools. Sometimes the hedge schoolmasters taught in the open air, in huts or in barns given by people of the district.(continues on next page)
