  1. A long time ago St Patrick was coming along a little road to Aughagower and there was an old chief living in Cluain Da chon which is a village beside the village of Aughagower. When the chief saw St Patrick he let his two hounds after him. But St Patrick left his hands on the hounds backs and the hound let him pass.

  2. There was a very wicked man living in Cluain Da chon which is a district about a quarter of a mile from the village of Aughagower in the County of Mayo. One day when St Patrick was coming through cluain da chon this wicked man set his two hounds at him. St Patrick made the sign of the cross and the ground opened and the hounds were swallowed in it.
