  1. There was a man who was in the habit of card playing out late at night. He was one night coming home and it was twelve o'clock. He lived in a big wood and the timber was being stolen out of it. As he came near a bridge he saw a man coming from the wood with a big tree on his shoulder. He thought it was a man stealing the timber and he hurried up to meet the man. When he came near the man got three times as big as he was, and the tree also increased in size. He crossed the road and went into another field and vanished. The man took off his hat and blessed himself and he was never out late again.
