    A tribe of friendship and of brotherhood.
    We that were Irish before the Gael,
    Fighting the sea since the world was young,
    Sing of our longing for Inisfail,
    Under alien skies, in an alien tongue.
    Her redgold hair against the west
    With a horred moon alone is crowned,
    A pipe slants out beneath her breast,
    Leashed to her skea-belt [?] a white-fanged hound
    The heather beneath her bruised feet
    With a trail of blood forever drips;
    But the joys of countless aeons meet
    In the chant that clangs from her tameless lips
    Smooth is her brow for all her pain,
