  1. Get a saucepan and wash, and clean it, put a pint of buttermilk in it, and leave it on the fire until the milk is boiling. Then put a cupful of oaten meal in the sauce-pan, keep stirring the gruel, or it will become little lumps. Take it up, and put an ounce of butter, and four spoons of sugar in the gruel. Take it hot going to bed, and your cold will vanish.
