  1. When Saint Patrick came to the Reek he climbed up on it. When he was going up he noticed numerous serpents every side of him. He drove them all down the side of the mountain and when they reached the bottom they ran into a lake and were drowned.
    He went up to the top of the mountain again and he spent forty days and forty night praying and fasting. When he was leaving he blessed the Reek and since that time it has been called Croagh Patrick.
