  1. One night a young fellow named Joyce was coming home from Westport when he met a man and a horse at a sand-pit about Knappa. The man kept talking to him and the boy never dreamed but that he was talking to a living being. At last the man pulled a bottle of whiskey out of his pocket and asked the boy to have a drink. After awhile the boy took a drink and then another until finally he finished the bottle between himself and the fairy man. Then he asked the boy would he come to a dance. The fairy man told him where the dance was. The boy said he had no means of taking
