  1. Long long ago in the Penal days, all the priests of the country used to have to say Mass out in the fields on big rocks or on heaps of stones.
    There is a kind of stone-altar over near Mrs Simmon's house near Aughagower and long ago a priest used to come and say mass there. It is called since "Carraig an Aifrinn" and some call it "Poll na Luinge."
    One Sunday a priest came and said mass there and all the people of the village was round him, when they saw in the distance a crowd of soldiers riding on horses coming towards them, all the people fled but the priest still remained saying mass and he was just at the Consecration
