  1. In olden times there were no slated roofs on the houses they were all thatched roofs. The people got the thatch on the mountain-sides. In olden times the people slept in the kitchen in a place called the "Cailleach". The old man of the house and his wife that slept in the kitchen. The fire was placed beside a wall. Some houses were built of scraws and sand and more of the houses with little stones and a lot of scraws. The chimneys on all the houses
