  1. Long ago, the people had very little white-bread. Potatoes were eaten very often. They ate them for the breakfast, and dinner. They had boxty for the lunch, and sometimes oaten-meal or potato-cake for the supper, but very often, they had none at all.
    The people got the oats ground by querns.
