  1. There are only two forges in this parish. The name of the man they belongs to is Staunton, and this man lives near Moate. It is a very old forge. His father and grandfather and great grandfather worked in that forge and the people showed them great respect. This forge is roofed with straw but long ago when straw was scarce it was thatched with sedge. You can know the forge to see the irons and he had a horse-shoe nailed to the door to let people know that they can get horses shod there and he has also his name on it. The bellow was not made
