  1. St Bridget's Day falls on the first of February every year. The little girls go about from house to house gathering pennies. Long ago the girls used to dress up a sod of turf and a turnip for a head and two sticks for hands. Some people would give them money and other people would give them a bottle of milk. Nowadays the girls dress up dolls and go about from house to house and they would not take anything but money. They have a little rhyme for saying when they they go about from house to house. This is
