  1. The houses long ago were thatched with rushes or sedge as the straw was very scarce. The people built the houses under the hills as in 1839 a big storm came and destroyed all the houses.
    Every old house contained a cailleach. Usually the old people slept in the cailleach. There used to be no chimneys on the old houses long ago. These houses were built of stones and mortar.
