  1. A forge is a workshop in which a blacksmith works. The principal plant consists of two bellows a large hop one or two anvils several large sledges hammers and other small tools and the stock with which he work is a large selection of horse shoes.
The principal work carried on is horse shoeing repairing farm machinery and banding of cart wheels though you may often find him on a peculiar job such as mending a crack on fixing the leg on a pot. The forge is a rendezvous for the wags of the locality on a rainy day.
