  1. Children made guns from elder sticks, by taking out the middle and pressing in a bit of paper half wat then put in another bit of paper. Then press with a stick made for the use and from the pressure it would act like a bullet.. They used also make slings for shooting birds with two rubbers a stick and a piece of leather.
    Others would make bird baskets for catching birds alive this was made with sally sticks tied together with twine and a twig tied underneath to make a bough, and the basket held up with a bit of stick and when the bird perches on the bough the weight of him knocks the cage and then he is caught.
