  1. Ardsollus (Agh Solus) was a famous place long ago. Races and Fairs were formerly held there. Faction fights used frequently take place at the Races and Fairs. On one occasion several people were killed at one of these gatherings. There is one large field in Ardsollus and it still bears the name of the Racecourse.
    Mause
    There is a townland in the parish of Newmarket-in-fergus convenient to Ballycad School called Mause. In this townland is a large Mass Rock. Overhanging the rock is a large tree. It is said that Mass was celebrated on this rock during Penal years. The rock is situated on the slope of a hill with a wide extending view on one side. There is a well convenient to the rock. The surrounding country is very craggy and at one time portion of it must be very marshy. It is said that when Quinn Abbey was suppressed some of the friars
