    There is a dear spot in Ireland
    That I long to see.
    It's my home and native birth-place
    And its happiness to me.
    Sure my poor widowed mother
    Lived there all alone
    With my brothers and sisters
    It was a bright happy home.
    Till the shadows of poverty,
    Darkened our door.
    I left Ireland and mother,
    Because we were poor.
    I am leaving old Ireland
    A my poor mother's death.
    "God bless and protect him"
    Were the last words she said
