- The games that I play outdoors are hurling, football and spinning and flogging tops and the ones I play beside the fire are cards, Draughts, Ludo and Snakes and Ladders. When I am going to spin tops I first make a ring on the ground with the spear of the top. I then peg into the ring and the first that does not spin in the ring must be thrown a considerable distance from the ring. Every other top is spun beside the top on the ground. If the other top does not hit the top on the ground I can pick up my top and the other must be left down. Every time you hit the top it is called ____ the boys continue hitting the top until it is brought back to the ring again.
When you play Snakes and Ladders you must have a board with Ladders and Snakes drawn on it. You toss the dice and if you turn the number five you remove five spaces and if you climb a ladder you get a second toss. When you come to a snake's head you must come back to the end of his tail.- Collector
