  1. Old Mrs.Cusack of Carrowroe, Quin, Co.Clare used to make candles. She used to make them of tallow. The materials were got from the fat of sheep. The tallow was rendered first in a pot and then put into a mould and left in a cool place to harden. The wick was put in the centre of the mould and the tallow poured around it. The moulds were made of tin. The wicks were made of soft twine. I do not know anybody who still has moulds. My father told me this story.
