    After the 1798 Rebellion, many of the Wexford men fled from the reign of terror that then existed in the County Wexford.They scattered themselves throughout the other counties disguising their identity by by taking assumed names.After the amnesty they moved fiercely about amongst the people .They often got work from the local "gentry"as they were called ,but as soon as they got to know who they were ,they were instantly dismissed.These men were known by the name of One of them came to Clare ,and got work in Dromoland ,but as soon as O'Brien found out who he was ,he dismissed him.he then made his way to the parish of Clooney .here he got work from the local farmers .Now at this time the regiments of Yeomanry were formed in country districts. .-They were all drawn form the sons of "big farmers" with the local landlord as Captain.These patrolled the country districts.
