A man named Bindon owned the Clooney estate, gave the site for the present nice Church .He was a Protestant and gave the reason for giving it ,that he'd have a a Church and Chapel, lake and castle in his demense.
He called the |Catholic Church a chapel .There is an old Church in the graveyard in his demense ,there is a lake near the "Big House"and there is an old castle at the other side of the lake.The old Church in the graveyard is called Saint Brecan's Church.It is built on a hill which commands a splendid view of the surrounding country.It is built tin the centre of the grandest scenery in Clare.it is said that St Brecan always built churches amidst the finest scenery.
