Flax was grown in the district up to about 60 years ago.it was manufactured in the home ,and shirts ,bed-linen and table-linen were made from it. The coarser and rougher portion was used for towels .In some of the streams ,ponds are still pointed out as the "flax-holes" of those days where the flax used be soaked previous to "pounding".
