slides,looking glasses,beads, and all sorts of rings and pins. They also go around begging for alms.The alms they look for are
bread,butter,tea,sugar,eggs, flour,bacon,milk,old clothes, shoes and campher.Some people buy articles from them. The families mostly comes to
this vicinity are the Caseys,
Doyles,Sweeneys, and Mc Carthys.When they arrive in this vicinity they usually
remain for a week or more.They usually come to this vicinity around fair-days,
or race- days or on feast days
and pattern days.The men
sometimes are sweeps and
they go around from house to house cleaning the chimneys
and the people pay them for the job.Sometimes three or four camps of the travelling
people stay in one place together.Some of the poor class live in camps made of timber and canvas and they line them with bags while some of the richer folk live in caravans with four wheels drawn by horses. Most of these people are married and have families but there are some single such as "Nell the
Beggar"and "Big Bridge"and "O Brien".When the travelling folk visit this vicinity the local people gather around the camp to hear them singing
and telling stories. - the poor people visit our home they usually travel around in families.They usually sell saucepans,buckets,pictures,brushes and beads.The people usually(continues on next page)
