  1. People make many resolutions for the coming year on New Year's Day.
Bells in the churches are rung at 12 o'clock to ring out the old year and to ring in the new.
Here in the country, there is not much show at all about the day. It is just like an ordinary Holiday quite different from the great fuss and joy always about Christmas. When people meet each other that morning the Salutation is:-
"I wish you a happy New Year"
"I wish you many happy returns."
"I wish you the Compliments of the Season."
    "I wish you the Same."
Children are warned not to cry on New Year's Day as they would be crying for the whole year.
People too never throw out the ashes as they say "you would be throwing away your luck."
If you go into a house that day you will be going in for the year.
The people too avoid spending money or laying it out any way as they would be spending it for the year.
