On the top of the *Kilbane mountains an enchanted lake named Pollalocha is situated. It is said that when the Danes were leaving Ireland they threw a crock of gold into this lake. One time the people of Kilbane made up their minds to drain the lake and get the gold. When they began to work they saw all Kilbane on fire. They ran down to extinguish the fire and when they reached below it was not on fire. Then they knew that this was an omen that they were not to touch the lake again.
Once upon a time a farmer who kept a number of cows noticed a decrease in their supply of milk. He suspected his neighbours as being milking the cows. So he remained up one night with a gun and a hound. He watched for some time until he saw a hare milking one of the cows. He set the hound after the hare but the hound was not able to catch him. The man fired at the hare and wounded him. The hare ran in under a door and the man followed him in and to his surprise there was no hare there only the woman of the house who changed herself into a hare.
