Engines here and engines there, making roads all over bare

    Engines here and engines there,
    Making roads all over Clare,
But none of them are here and there
    With Smart's machine in Broadford.
For she makes no more of smashing stones
Than a dog would make of chickens' bones.
All the other engines are but drones
    To Smart's machine in Broadford.
The men work hard and keep good time,
At 8 a.m. they toe the line -
like showers of hail the stones are flying
    From Smart's machine in Broadford.
She's run by forty famous men
Just on the top of Frawley's Hill,
    And Mr. Smart's unbounded skill
Keeps all things in good order.
They make the roads in splendid style -
The best I see in Erin's isle
No road in Clare can e'er be spoiled
    Where Mr Smart is master.
