  1. About forty years ago there was a great snowstorm. It lasted for six weeks. It snowed for four days and then froze. The snow was as high as the ditches, and you wouldn't know the roads from the fields.
    It was very cold and a great number of people died of hunger. It began to snow at the end of January and some of the snow stayed on the tops of the hills till the end of March.
