    There were many great horses dealers in South Monaghan and especially in this district long ago. Ralph Robinson from Ballybay had a commision to supply the British Army with horses from this country. He was the most famous horse-dealer of all. People named Cassidy's from Cox`s mill were great horse dealers in their time and lived were Mr. Cooney now resides. The great stabling accommodation which was once used to the full can be seen to this day.

There are fairs in Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Ballybay, and Shercock and they are all monthly. The fairs are held in towns nowadays but long ago there used to be fairs
