  1. The local fairs of this district are Carrickmacross, Castleblaney and Ballybay. Dealers from the neighbouring towns used to visit the country and buy pigs, cattle, fowl, eggs and other farm produce and it is still occasionally done. There used to be a fair at Ballytrain and at Mullacrew in Louth but they are now discontinued because they were a failure. There is a yearly fair at Muff. Muff and Mullacrew fairs were held on hills. This day used to be a kind of a holiday and all the people of the neighbourhood would gather at these places and there would be dancing and singing and music going on and there would also be fighting.
