    Of the dear old shamrock shore
    He swept the streets of Scotland
    For seven years or more.
    He was true and patriotic
    To his own dear native land
    When he was returning home from Scotland
    The Scot mourned the loss of James McCann.

    He was stranded for a job
    And to lift a spade and shovel
