- One Monday morning as I took my tea,
I made a few verses without much delay,
Concerning an ass, that is of great fame.
And some people call him Bold Thompson by name.

This ass he was firm and tight to be sure,
And seldom was seen at his own master's door,
When he would come to the stable to look for some hay,
John would call out the dogs and chase him away,

This ass he got poor and thin on the back,
One night he strayed over to John Andy's stack,
