- Horses, cows donkeys, sheep, pigs, goats, dogs, cats, hens, ducks, geese and turkeys are the animals that are kept at every house in the district. The cows have all got names. One is called "Darkie" another is called "Spot" another is called "Daisy" and another is called "Lilly".
The following is the way for calling the farm animals
Cows are called chay, how, how (howie).
Sheep " " Hatchy, hatchy. Yup Yup
Pigs " " Hurish, Hurish. Sty, Sty.
Goats " " Kiddie, kiddie.
Dogs " " Click, Click.
Cats " " Pushie-wushie.
Hens " " Chuck, Chuck Shuck, Shuck [?]
Ducks " " Wheetie, wheetie.
Geese " " Gay, gay.
Turkeys " " Pee pee.
Horses and donkeys are called by their various names such as "Joe" or "Neddy".
The cowhouse is a place where the cows are kept. There are poles put down along the front wall, one for each cow and to these chains are attached. These chains are fastened round the cows' necks at night. Behind the cows is a hollow which is called a(continues on next page)- Collector
