    On came the Saxons facing the farmer
    But soon they reeled back from our

    I thought that I saw those our noble commanders
    All mounted on charges in gorgeous array
    The green trimmed with gold and their bright shining sabres
    On which danced the sunbeams of freedom
    that day
    "Slapbang" the cannons firing they were all cut through
    Men on both sides were dying or dead

    Our men and commanders were bound to die or hold their ground
    And from their vengeance the proud Saxon fled.
    The green flag was floating high beneath
    a blue and happy sky
    With joy every man shouted gloriously
