  1. 34. Local traditions of St. Patrick
    1. Loughnageirdeman (between
    Carrickmacross and Laragh)
    How it got its name:-
When St. Patrick was one day
    coming the Rathmór road
towards above lake he saw a
a man fishing there. St. Patrick
asked a fish off him which he
gladly gave saying it's only a
géirde (a small one) Since then
there are no fish in the lake
    except geirges and hence the
    lake got its name.
    2. When St. Patrick was going
    around Castleblayney district
he stayed overnight in a house
    in Knockagolis. He asked the
bean a' tighe to call him
    before cock crow the following
    morning. Woman promised,
but neglected to do so. He was
very angry and prayed that a
    cock might never crow in
    Knockagolis again. Tradition
has it that his prayer was heard.
