  1. In memoriam of John Henry De La Poer Bersford
    I
The morning rose smiling o’er valley and hill
The sun chased the shadows from woodland and rill
The birds sang a welcome to herald its beams
As danced through the frost-laden boughs on the streams
And fair was the scene that the morning smiled o’er
Where the Clodagh goes sweeping by fair Curraghnmore

The hours of noontide grew sullen and lone
The winds in the branches wail sadly and moan
The robin wings low o’er grasses his flight
He flees from sorrow that comes with the night,
And it comes with the gloaming the sorrow in store
The evening so fateful for sad Curraghmore
