- (continued from previous page)Monday of the New Year is called Handzel Monday. People like to get money or present on that day.
Collected by Mary Roughan from her mother, Mrs D. Roughan, Fountain, Ennis. Aged 41 years.
- On Christmas Eve everyone decorates the house and puts up holly and laurel and balloons. On Christmas Night everyone must attend when the youngest in the family is lighting the candle and it is usually left lighting till morning. Usually on Christmas Morning the country people go to early mass.
On St. Stephen's day the children go out in the Wren. They turn their caps inside out and they wear eyefiddles. More have their faces blackened. They usually go about in bands and one of them carries the money box.They have musical instrument and have dancing and singing.
St. Stephen's day that holy morning as I was going to mass. I heard the huntsmen sound their horns. I saw the fox hound pass his book(continues on next page) - Collector
