There was a hedge-school in Gortnahaha. The teacher was A. Connolly. The scholars used to sit on a mat. The scholars were taught Irish, History, and sums. The scholars went to the hedge-school at ten o'clock and went home at three.

“Long ago there was a hedge-school in Derryshane.”
Long ago there was a hedge-school in Derryshane. Every morning the children could be seen winding their way through fields and matches till they came to the hedge-school. Every week the master used spend a few days in each of the scholar's houses. (no title)
