- 'Tis not so very long ago.
Jim was a little chap you know.
With cheeks so red and eyes so blue.
And hair a lovely golden hue.
He seldom missed a day from school.
But hated lessons as a rule.
For figures and such things to him.
A perfect bore they are said Jim.He'll tell two and one are four.
And five and six are just a score.
His copy too was full of scratches.
In fact a thing of shreds and patches
But when it came to reading time
Or spelling either prose or rhyme
Or getting off by heart a hymn
T'was always Greek to lazy Jim.Each evening when he came from school
He fling his bag upon a stool.
Or on a chair or on the floor.
And frequently behind the door.
His cap he threw upon some shelf.
And ne'er could find it by himself
