- In olden times there were very few shops in this district and the people had to go to Tipperary and Cahir for anything they wanted. Buying and selling were not carried on after Mass.
Money was nearly always given for goods but sometimes labour was given in exchange for goods also.
The words used in buying and selling are tick" which means getting goods without paying for them. "Boot" means money given with an article for another article. "Change" means the money got back after paying for some purchase. "Cant" was sometimes used instead of(continues on next page)- Collector
