  1. In and about thei district marriages frequently take place during Shrove and on Shrove Tuesday especially. May is thought to be an unlucky month for marriages and Saturday is supposed to be the unlucky day of the week.
    Matches are made in this district and money is given as dowry. Stock and goods are sometimes given. After the marriages a wedding feast is held in the bride's home, or in a hotel.
    "Straw boys" do not visit the houses in this district.
    "A hauling home is held in a month after the wedding.
