  1. Cocks flap their wings a great deal and hens appear restless and uneasy. Dogs and cats get sleepy and dull, and lie drowsily before the fire. Ducks and geese quack more often and more loudly than usual.
    Jackdaws become very noisy and restless.
    Soot often falls down the chimney.
    The setting sun on the previous evening appears pale. Many plants and flowers that are generally wide open on fine mornings begin to close up their petals.
    Spiders are seen crawling on the walls. Swallows fly low and skim over the surface of the ground.
    Distant objects appear nearer than usual.
