A number of years ago there were no schools in the country only what was known as Hedgeschools.
There was one at the corner of Grace's St. where Ellards now reside. George Bowler taught in this school, it is said that this man used to teach Irish principally.
There was another Hedge school at the top of Silver St. where Duffys live now. The was a man teaching there whose name was Mr. Buckley he has a daughter there as well. She taught the girls, and he taught the boys. They had to use slate pencils and slates, there were no copies at the time.
