  1. Red clouds in the west, at sunset, especially when they have a tint of purple, portend to fine weather.
A copper or yellow sunset generally fortells rain.
The halo around the moon is the most certain sign of wet weather, as the proverb says.
A rainbow in the morning, is the shepherd's warning.
A rainbow in the night is the shepherd's delight.
A rainbow can only occur when the clouds containing the rain are opposite the sun. In the evening the rainbow is in the east, and in the morning in the west.
When the swallows fly high fine weather may be coming or expected to continue, but when they fly low, rain is surely approaching. In Springtime it is a sign of bad weather to one magpie as the others remain with the young ones. If two leave the nest Anglers take it as a sign of good weather and a good time for fishing.
