Gortlandroe means Gort Oilean Ruad[?], but to make it short it is called Gortlandroe. It got its name from a swamp that surrounded a piece of dry land and that piece of land was a kind of an island, and the colour of the soil around that swamp was a dark red, and about 14 years ago there were ten cottages built on the dry land, and the swamp dried up a little, but there is still a trace of it to be seen, it runs through the land of Mr Maher Mr Gubbins and Mr Conway. It is in the parish of Nenagh Co Tipperary.
