  1. St. Brigid's cross is kept in every house in my district. St. Brigid's cross is made every year on the eve of St. Brigid's Day and it is hung over the doors of dwelling houses and old ones are taken down. This cross is made from two short rods placed at right angles and straw wound around them. Old people say that this cross protects the family and all the animals belonging to the house.
On the day before St. Patrick's Day the children used to make green crosses from green ribbons and paper. They used [to] wear these crosses on St. Patrick's Day in honour of St. Patrick. These crosses are dying out.
On the twelfth night of Christmas the old people used [to] put twelve candles in a cake made from clay. They used [to] then light these candles and say the rosary. Other people used [to] say the rosary with lighted candles in their hands and they used to stay on their knees until their candles burned out.
