  1. A local cure for a headache was to tie a band around the forehead. A remedy for a sore throat was to warm coarse salt and put it in a stocking and tie it around the neck. Roast potatoes put on in the same way is believed to be effective.
    Cotton wool dipped in warm castor oil was supposed to be for an earache.
    An old cure for rheumatism was equal proportions of sweet oil, gin, and turpentine rubbed on and covered with red flannel which was the essential part of the cure. It was believed that if a person suffering from this disease carried a raw potato peeled in his pocket he would be cured.
    Ferret's leavings were supposed to be a cure for the whooping cough. If a person who was suffering from this disease was taken in and out under an ass a few times it was considered a cure. If seven sons were born in succession the seventh was supposed to
