- Nearly all the townlands in this district derive their names from some person who lived in them, or some castle or fort which is in them, or some battle which was fought.
The townland we live in is called Dunmanus. It is called Dun because of the castle which is situated about a mile from this school, and Manus because the castle was in the possession of a man named Manus O'Mahony.
