  1. The common birds are
Robin, wren, lark, boglark, sparrow, thrush, blackbird, starling (called blackstair), woodthrush, crow, jackdaw, carrion crow, hawk, magpie, linnet, goldfinch, bullfinch (not plentiful), plover, partridge, pheasant, snipe, wild duck, woodpigeon (called woodquest), yellowhammer.
Migratory: Cuckoo, corncrake, swallows and wild geese that fly over but seldom alight.
Boys are told cows will milk blood if they molest a swallow's nest.
The red breast of the robin is connected with The Saviour. It is said the robin tried to pull out the nails which bound Our Saviour to The Cross and got a red breast in doing so.
There is a story about how a woodpigeon makes such a bad nest (a few sticks laid across one another)
