  1. In 1912 two years before the Great war Ballintemple House the seat of the Butlers was burned to the ground. Nothing remains but a few broken walls of what was once the home of pride and opulence. No one knows exactly how the house took fire. Two plumbers had been working in the place and had gone back to Dublin on the evening before the night of the conflagration. Some think they might accidentally have set fire to some part of the roof with a blow lamp.
