  1. Bishop Fith who had a monastery in Aghade was a relative of St Patricks. Some say he was a nephew. St Patrick travelled the Slaney valley from Rathvilly to Ghade to see his friend. He was leaving the next day, and felt fatigued after his journeying. He called at a house in Aghade and asked the owner for a loan of a horse to carry him part of his way. The horse the Saint said would return of his own accord. The man refused to give the horse. His excuse was that the horse had been
